Telemetry System Overview:
"By 2025, one third of the world's population will be affected by water shortages". Whilst shortage of energy has negative impact on the economy and citezens livelihoods.
Tsalano has responded to these envisaged challenges by developing a Turnkey Real-Time Utility Monitoring and Management Solution that is easily customisable
for monitoring and management cutting across different industries.
Our solution easily integrates into any call-centre systems, billing and payments engines to facilitate:
- Invoice Validations & Verifications based on customer actual usage against Municipality's/Landlord invoices;
- Utility Payment Initiation and Processing;
- Utility Usage analytics and dashboard reporting;
- Automated logging of calls.
The solution can be implemented as a whole or in modules and is ideal for use by:
- Property management companies;
- Corporate Sector;
- Public Sector;
- Landlords;
- Municipalities;
- Water boards/authorities
- Residential properties.
Water Monitoring and Management
The South African Government has initiated a number of water conservation and demand management strategies taking cognizance of the fact that
South Africa is a water scarce country and that it is prudent to preserve this precious commodity and to ensure that current and future
generations are secured. However, it is not only the responsibility of government to conserve water, It is a shared responsibility that cuts
across all sectors of the society, with government providing leadership.
The NWRS2 list 6 key Strategic Themes to achieve their set objectives, namely:
- Water resource planning, development and infrastructure management;
- Water Resource Protection;
- Equitable Water Allocation;
- Water Conservation and Demand Management;
- Regulation;
- Managing Water resources for climate change.
Tsalano Telemetry system aligns processes and procedures with the Six Strategic Themes of the National
Water Resource Strategy (NWRS2), in order to meet the objectives set out.
Our Solution is a Real-time Monitoring and Management Solution for all water utilities and infrastructure within the Water Distribution Network.
Real-time incoming mobility and System alarms from Remote Terminal Units, Smart Meters alerting of any deviation from the operational norms,
changes in consumption patterns compared to historical data. Our Solution is fully integrated with these multiple streams and allows real-time data
comparisons in a form of frequent reports, charts, dashboards for faster decision machining and analytics.
Our approach to water conservation and management also takes into
consideration the needs of the National Development Plan (NDP) in relations to job creation as an example.
Water infrastructure needs constant maintenance
to keep functioning at optimum level and to keep serving the needs of communities, with the support of the National government, local municipalities
can employ people with adequate skills in this area.
High Level System Functional Overview:

- Regulate water usage and water infrastructure;
- Drive community water educational campaigns;
- Ensure water quality to align with Blue Drop and Green Drop Standards;
- Involve communities in water conservation drives.
Electricity Monitoring and Management
Establishing accurate target energy consumption setpoints is one of the key area of our solution, this is achieved by strategically where feasible,
monitoring of the incomer, compare and validate electricity utility readings with electricity internal usage to avoid misalignment.
Energy measurements such as the active, reactive and apparent power, power factor shall be measured, different energy tariffs shall be
applied and advanced features such as phase failure, power failure and others are monitored, recorded and proactively reported on.
In addition, various usage of electricity by various loads are monitored to create a
baseline to be used for possible savings when loads are being controlled.
Some Benefits:
- Ability to remotely or automatically switch specific loads on/off especially non essentials during the peak demand at sites;
- Dashboard reports showing usage trends and the high usage contributors;
- Monitoring and reporting of the sources of energy, from either the utility's mains or the generators;
- Finding time periods that deviates from desired operation, resulting in corrective actions such as corrective action of establishing demand reduction sequences via analytics, producing a lower energy consumption profiles;
- Continuous automated monitoring with notifications to operators of deviations from the desired energy baseline;
- Enabling real-time investigation and corrective action.
Gas Monitoring and Management
Significant number of companies and households depends on Gas usage to carry out their daily activities,
for most it has proven to be a strenous task to manually monitor and manage usage it does not remain the same on daily basis. Not having real time knowledge of
the Gas mass available often lead to activity or business disruption.
Our solution is build to monitor the usage of gas at a single or multiple sites in real-time.
The system monitors the mass of the gas inside the
bottle over a period of time so that the usage and level of gas can be monitored on frequent intervals.
The data is remotely read and transmitted through a secure encrypted channel and stored at our
Utility Management and Payments Turnkey Solution central server on interval basis for further analysis, reporting and action initiation should there
an anormally detected. The data is further used to derive usage patterns taking into account days of usage, times of usage and usage quantities,
The data is presented in powerful real time visual dashboards for easy read and understanding.
Some of the benefits:
- Onsite or offside real time monitoring of LPG gas usage at sites and times of usage;
- Real time Gas level monitoring inside Gas bottles.
Generator Monitoring and Management:
Generators are used as alternative source of energy, some are located in areas which are at close proximity and some are placed in remote locations.
These Generators are used from industrial to households.
The challenges in most cases are attributed to the following;
- Just like cars, Generators use Diesel and requires frequent maintenance;
- It is problematic to determine the service intervals of generators as they are serviced based on the hours they ran;
- Frequent monitoring of the generator can be problematic, regardless of the generator location;
- Another problem is to determine the level of the Diesel inside the generator at all times.
Our Utility Telemetry Sytem addresses all the above challenges by;
- Providing remote real time monitoring of generator running conditions for planned and unplanned maintenance;
- Providing remote real time diesel levels inside the generator;
- Real time monitoring and reporting of generator abnormal signals;
- Real time logging of generator running hours.
This real time data and alerts can assist by;
- Proactively knowing when to refuell generators;
- Knowing when to service the generators;
- Knowing in real time whether generators are on or off.
