Introducing Tsalano "Help a School" Initiative Campaign
Help a School is an outreach initiative started by Tsalano to drum up support for schools located in our Townships and Villages.
Having gone through the government schools ourselves and seeing the dire situation the schools operate under currently prompted us
to want to play our small part.
We tried to understand the problem further by conducting interviews with schools and by way of observation.
Our conclusion based on evidence and research was that Township and Village schools are far behind in comparison with their
counterparts i.e. schools in suburbia and have a lot of resource challenges.
We found that there is lack of proper teaching aids, science labs, computer labs, Internet connectivity,
learning equipment’s, support materials as well as Sporting facilities to name but a few.
Because these schools are attended mainly by the poor of the poor, learners are mostly exempted from paying
school fees due non affordability by their parents or guardians.
Majority of these learners cannot even afford school uniforms and do not have access to proper nutrition at home apart
from what they are getting at schools through Government feeding schemes. Now this leaves operational challenges of how to run
the school with lack of resources and finance.
